PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Performs all grounds maintenance on all athletic complexes, using proper safety procedures

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License, insurable with Judson ISD insurance carrier, and a good driving record
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to read and understand written instructions
  • Ability to communicate (verbally)
  • Ability to operate riding or power mower, power tools, and hand tools, weed eater, gasoline backpack blower, and reel mower
  • Proficient in general math skills such as:  reading measuring tape in inches, feet and yards.  Basic geometry skills as related to athletic fields

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Comply with District directives and Maintenance Policies and Procedures and follows all safety procedures
  • Raise flags at District Office
  • Pick up and mow grounds around stadium parking lot.  Blow off all walkways (wearing ear protectors). Sweep grass cuttings, trimmings and picks up trash and places in school dumpster
  • Police and maintain grounds around all athletic fields, daily if needed
  • Trim and prune all trees and shrubs as needed, and disposes of cuttings
  • Prepare and maintain all athletic fields at secondary schools.  (Includes mowing, watering, aeration, fertilization, marking, spreading soil required, etc.)
  • Keep all equipment clean and operate equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations, including lubrication
  • Clean and supply all restrooms for all games during football, track and baseball season
  • Maintain a clean vehicle, check oil and water, and has vehicle filled with fuel on a daily basis
  • Keep a record of date, item checked, item needed to maintain vehicle, and person who did the verification of these items
  • Set up press boxes for events, including seating, refreshments, etc
  • Layout and stripe all athletic fields as required, including soccer, baseball, track and football
  • Maintain all athletic equipment in proper condition and in secured areas
  • Police stadium and grounds morning after each contest
  • Clean press boxes, officials dressing rooms, restrooms, etc
  • Complete work order for maintenance of all equipment used, including two-cycle oil, engine oil, grease, or any other items needed
  • Keep all storage rooms neat and clean
  • Complete assignments given by District Athletic Director and perform overtime work assignments as required to assist Athletic Director with athletic functions or events
  • Employee may be required to work some overtime at sporting events, optional
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

Equipment Used: 

  • Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position
  • Tractor and mower, riding and power mower, gas-powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools, posthole auger, aerator. Light truck or van.

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to read, concentrate, communicate (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute
  • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling
  • Occasional: Lifting, moderate, 15-44 pounds

Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)
  • Work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
  • Work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours
