PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Coordinate the routine cleaning and maintenance procedures necessary to maintain a high standard of safety, security, cleanliness, and efficiency of the building operations and grounds, and monitor the performance and deficiencies of custodial staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- High school graduate or GED equivalent, preferred
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of plant operations, cleaning methods and procedures, minor repairs, security, heating and ventilation, and grounds maintenance
- Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
- Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years in custodial services
- Supervisory ability or Supervisory experience
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

- Work closely with custodial staff to train them in the proper use of materials and equipment
- Establish procedures for locking, checking, and safe guarding facilities
- Oversee, when requested, the physical arrangements for school rental, dances and other extracurricular activities.
- Upon request of the administration, proposes shift schedules and informs the administration when replacement or extra help is required
- Keep the principal and designee informed of defective or unsafe plant conditions.
- Make minor repairs, when requested, within his/her resources and any necessary adjustments to plant equipment and fixtures
- Work with school administrators on submission of work orders on maintenance repairs and conduct follow-up to insure timely completions
- When requested by the school administration, will develop daily work schedules for campus custodians
- Attend custodial in-service when requested
- Handle emergencies and perform other assignments directed by the principal or designee
- May be required to do some touch up painting
- Implement and maintain established cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms
- Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean
- Keeps light bulbs and tubes replaced
- Comply with local law and procedures for storage and disposal of trash
- Punctual and dependable
- Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needs
- Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
- Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
- Ability to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Monitor and direct the work of custodians
Equipment Used:
- Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position
- Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
- Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, shampooer
Mental Demands:
- Ability to read, concentrate, communicate (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute
- Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
Physical Demands:
- Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, ladders and/or ramps, using a scissor lift, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling
- Occasional: Lifting, heavy, 45 pounds or more
Environmental Factors:
- Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
- Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)
- Work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
- Work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours
