PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provides leadership in the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of the district’s elementary curriculum to include the effective and efficient operation of the curriculum and professional development needs of the department. Provides a clear articulation of the curriculum between elementary and middle schools.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction or Educational Leadership
  • Successful completion of the state reading academy or specialized certification related to the science of reading or specialized certification related to the science of teaching mathematics
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Valid Texas Principal or Mid-Management SBEC Certification preferred
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

 

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide PK-5 curriculum
  • Expertise in data analysis to improve student achievement
  • Knowledge of school policies, TEA regulations, and school law
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Knowledge of cross-curricular integration or project-based learning
  • Excellent organizational, communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programming
  • In-depth knowledge of TEKS/State Assessments including assessment types beyond multiple choice

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of successful teaching experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of district level leadership experience
  • Experience in organizing, designing, and delivering professional development

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Serve as a leader and general resource person in matters relating to elementary curriculum, development, and evaluation
  • Facilitate, implement, and assist with the development of standards-based curriculum in all elementary content
  • Coordinate and implement the professional development program for elementary schools, incorporating input from teachers and principals
  • Review, research, prepare, and disseminate information pertaining to trends in curriculum development, extended learning, and intervention programs
  • Develop the process and timelines for implementation of standards-based accountability to reflect legislative and state expectations
  • Facilitate the development of content assessments to align with the district’s approved curriculum
  • Analyze, interpret, and report student performance data and makes recommendations for instructional improvement
  • Coordinate the sharing of best practices across district schools
  • Participate in the process of textbook evaluation, selection, and adoption at the elementary level
  • Visit elementary schools regularly to ensure high levels of visibility and effective communication
  • Provide leadership and expertise in guiding and advising district task forces and advisory committees or groups
  • Participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the district’s goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs using collaborative processes
  • Monitor and reevaluate instructional programs on an ongoing basis using input from teachers, principals, current research, state expectations and student data to determine effectiveness and improve outcomes. Recommend adjustments as appropriate
  • Collaborate with curriculum specialists, principals, teachers, and other instructional staff to develop, maintain, and revise curricular documents based on systematic review and analysis
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, School Board of Education rule, and local board policy related to curriculum and instruction
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and documents as required
  • Monitor the budget alignment to documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective
  • Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions in the elementary curriculum and instruction department
  • Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness
  • Select, train, evaluate, and supervise staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics        
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members
  • Articulate the district’s mission, philosophy, and curriculum to the community
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage parent involvement

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to the Curriculum & Instruction department

 

Equipment Used: 

  • Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
  • Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
  • Video monitoring equipment
