PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist the school principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and school operations. Oversee assigned student activities and services.

      Instructional Management

 

  1. Participate and support in the development, and management of innovative instructional programs or school redesigns, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate. Participate in program evaluation measures and make suggestions for improvement where needed.
  2. Reinforce expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies and classroom management.
  3. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
  4. Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
  5. Participate and facilitate PLC groups for planning as instructional support for the principal.

School/Organizational Improvement

 

  1. Assist with master schedule development and allocation of resources.
  2. Take a leadership role in planning activities and implementing programs to ensure attainment of the school’s mission.
  3. Participate in district staff development programs and develop campus staff development programs that improve job relates skills and professional growth.
  4. Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  5. Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  6. Working knowledge of the Campus Improvement Plan to align goals, objectives, strategies, and actions to achieve high level performance for all students.
  7. Participate with the development and monitoring of the Targeted Improvement Plan as mandated by the state accountability program
  8. Coordinate state assessments as the designated Campus Test Coordinator

Student Management

 

  1. Assist with the development of a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  2. Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the JISD Student Handbook.
  3. Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
  4. Ensure that students are adequately supervised during noninstructional periods.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

 

  1. Supervise campus operations in principal’s absence.
  2. Take leadership role in planning and scheduling of daily school activities including the development of master/class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
  3. Oversee reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with staff to identify and address issues.
  4. Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
  5. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment and monitor and maintain inventory in accordance with district procedures.
  6. Attend, participate, and lead (when needed) in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  7. Coordinate operational support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria to best meet campus needs.
  8. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and campus policies affecting schools, including UIL rules, daily attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality.
  9. Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
  10. Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools.

Personnel Management

 

  1. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser as needed for designated teacher appraisal system.
  2. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.

School/Community Relations

 

  1. Communicate effectively with staff, students and parents
  2. Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  3. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Other

 

  1. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  2. Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  3. Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needs 
  4. Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
  5. Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
  6. Ability to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise and evaluate the work of professional staff and assistant principals as assigned by the school principal. Direct the work of teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel, and others as assigned.
