PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provides the locksmith function for the district and manages the Best Keying Program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- State of Texas Locksmith license preferred
- Valid Texas Driver’s License, insurable with Judson ISD insurance carrier, and a good driving record
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Must have computer skills to include Microsoft word and Excel
- Knowledge of hand and power tools, their state operation, capabilities and limitations
- Ability to read and comply with construction drawings and locking devise schedules
- Ability to work alone or with limited supervision
- Effective planning and organization skills
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with window/door hardware and various building locking devices
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

- Comply with District Board Policy and safety procedures
- Repair district locking devises on office equipment
- Fresh install locks on cabinets, desks, doors and file cabinets
- Maintain a working knowledge of installed hardware on doors and windows in the district
- Combine cores, cut keys and maintain records for the Best Locking System, Schlage, etc. for the district
- Provide hardware layouts for new and repair projects
- Prepare initial purchasing documents to construct, repair or replace locking hardware
- Responsible for the proper maintenance of all assigned tools and equipment
- Keep all materials stored in a neat and orderly manner
- Maintain appropriate records of work performed in work order system
- Maintain a clean and safe working area
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
- Install/replace/repair wood and hollow-metal doors as needed
- Install and repair door hardware including and hydraulic closing fixtures, panic devices, deadbolts, knobs, electronic locking devise, gates and hinges
- Disassemble locks, repair and replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts
- Cut new or duplicate keys and stamps with identifications, issues keys, and maintains record of keys issued and returned
- Ensure integrity of Judson ISD’s master key system while meeting customer requests
- Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needs
- Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
- Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
- Ability to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

- Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position
- Communication equipment, cellular telephone
- Tools and equipment related to the locksmith functions
- Light truck or van
Mental Demands:
- Ability to read, concentrate, communicate (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute
- Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
Physical Demands:
- Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, ladders and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling
- Occasional: Lifting, moderate, 15-44 pounds
Environmental Factors:
- Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
- Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)
- Work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces,
- Work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours
